Life After Football
Hey Lykkers! So the other day, I was watching highlights from a retired football legend's charity match, and it hit me… what do players actually do after they hang up their boots? 🥾
Football careers are short—most players retire in their 30s. That's young! So what's next for them? I did a deep dive and even spoke to a local retired player in my area. And wow, the answers were way more interesting than I expected!

Not everyone becomes a coach 🎓

When we think "retired footballer," most of us picture them standing on the sidelines yelling instructions. Coaching is a common path—some go straight into managing clubs, youth teams, or even national squads.
But here's the thing: not everyone wants that pressure. Coaching takes a whole different set of skills. One retired player told me, "I loved playing, but I never wanted to boss others around." Fair enough, right?

Some go into media 🎤📺

Football talk shows? Match commentary? Interviews on the pitch? Yup—plenty of former players become analysts or pundits. It's a natural fit. They know the game, have strong opinions, and can break things down in real-time.
I've personally loved watching ex-players on sports panels—especially when they get cheeky and share locker-room secrets. 😂

Then there are the surprise careers! 😲

Here's where it gets fun. Did you know some ex-players become:
• Chefs and food business owners 👨‍🍳
• Fashion designers 👕
• Real estate agents 🏡
• Musicians or DJs 🎶
No joke! One guy I follow now runs a bakery with his wife. Another opened a gym and became a personal trainer.
Some start foundations to help kids play sports. Others travel, write books, or launch podcasts. Retirement for them is more like a second act.

Why it matters 🧠

Retiring from something you've done your whole life isn't easy—especially when your body says stop, but your mind still loves the game. That's why many players start preparing early—taking courses, building networks, even getting degrees while they're still active.
It's honestly inspiring. It reminded me that no matter what stage we're in, we can always pivot and grow.
